"...kaya po ang tawag nila sa kanya ay Heneral Artikulo Uno."

September 25, Friday

Since it's a holiday, my mom, my uncle, and I decided to watch Heneral Luna. Everybody's talking about this phenomenal film since day 1 that's why I became more and more excited on watching the film.

Heneral Luna is not just a film about history but also talks about the cancer of Filipinos. (I won't be talking about the scenes of the film that much to avoid spoiler.) Like what Heneral Antonio Luna said, "May mas malakas tayo'ng kalaban kaysa sa mga Amerikano. Ang ating mga sarili." (We have powerful enemies than the Americans. Ourselves.) This line made me think for a moment before I was able to write the draft of this post. We are a nation but how can we say that we are officially free if we don't even know Mabini's disability? It is very sad to see posts in the social media about people who are history illiterate. I saw this post of Epy Quizon (plays as Apolinario Mabini in Heneral Luna) stating that he was asked by individuals why Mabini was always sitting until the end of the movie. He said, "what do we learned during our history classes?"

As a student, I always encounter questions like "How to be a hero?" and this question is currently retained in my mind since I was watching the credits of Heneral Luna in front of the theater. I hope Heneral Luna will serve as an inspiration for all of us because he died with his dignity in fighting for this country.

Ang pagkamakabayan ay hindi dapat naiiwan sa sinehan, kundi maidala sa pang araw-araw na buhay. (Patriotism shouldn't be left inside the theater but to be carried on our daily lives.)
